Juniors and Seniors Advice

Juniors and Seniors Advice

Here are a few advice provided by Shifra Feldman (CME Class of 2019) and Alfredo Rodriguez (CME Class of 2018).

# Get Involved: By now, you likely know what area of study you want to pursue and you are taking classes that directly correlate to your major/degree. The best thing is to get involved in extra curricular activities within your major. Become a member in a society/club, take on a leadership role, go to conferences, etc. This will inevitably help you meet more people in your field and you will make connections that will lead to friendships, mentorships, internships/jobs and life-long associates.

# Lab Teammates: this is the time when Labs will take a lot of your time. Sometimes it feels not fair that labs are so long but this is the way it goes to visually understand the class concepts. Try to make a circle of friends with common interests because they can definitely help you or you can help them in some concepts you don’t understand in classes. It’s really important to try Junior Year as these are the core and fundamentals of engineering. You will thank yourself later when you sit down for the FE when you don’t have to study as much because you already studied your whole college career. Also, try to take the FE before graduating as it opens many positions for you as employers want someone that is qualified.
